Separate the lead from the evidence
A useful W2C answer points to an identifiable item. A quality claim needs something more: the stated specification, relevant photographs or measurements, and a clear connection to the goods being offered. Treat these as separate columns in your notes. A highly visible comment can still contain little product evidence.
Before accepting a recommendation, establish what the commenter actually knows. Have they identified a similar image, examined the same version, or supplied a record of a particular purchase? Those answers have different value. Do not turn “looks similar” into “same material” or “same seller.”
| Check | Match to establish | Why a mismatch matters |
|---|---|---|
| Item | Shape, construction and item reference | A visually similar product may be a different version. |
| Option | Colour, size system, material and included parts | The suggested price may cover a different option. |
| Seller | Business or account identity in the source record | A forwarded screenshot may omit who made the offer. |
| Date | When the details and quotation were available | An old reply does not confirm present stock or terms. |
What to do with a changed or missing listing
Do not use an old thumbnail as a substitute for a current specification. Keep the dated lead, then ask whether the exact item is still available. If the response offers an alternative, compare it as a different proposal. Ask which features changed and obtain a new quotation before treating it as equivalent.
If multiple replies point to different sources using the same photo, record the competing claims. Similar photographs do not settle ownership, manufacturing origin or current inventory. A decision can remain unresolved; there is no need to select a winner merely because one reply received more votes.
An effective follow-up question
Instead of asking only “Is this good?”, ask a question that can produce a specific answer.
Turn a source lead into a useful shortlist
Compare the finding with the published records in our spreadsheet. Use the internal item code and the relevant feature in your search. Once you identify a product, its detail page is where you select options and add it to the quote list; a community source reply is not a checkout step here.
If you cannot establish a match, describe the item through the contact form and identify the missing facts. Do not assign a random existing product ID simply because the image looks close. A correct “not confirmed” record is more useful than a confident mismatch. For a photo-led source, the Yupoo guide provides a more detailed identification request.
